Before Construction: Design & Planning (4-8 weeks)

Before any demolition begins, the most important work happens: planning. This phase includes your initial consultation, space measurement, 3D design rendering, material selection, and permit submission. Rushing this phase leads to change orders and delays later.

At Barcci Builders, we spend 4-8 weeks on design and planning to ensure every detail is decided before construction begins. This is why our projects consistently finish on time and on budget.

Weeks 1-2: Demolition & Rough-In

Week 1: Demolition of existing cabinets, countertops, flooring, and fixtures. Protection of adjacent areas with dust barriers. Disposal of old materials.

Week 2: Rough plumbing, electrical, and gas line modifications. This is when layout changes happen — moving a sink, adding an island outlet, or repositioning appliance connections. Inspection by city building inspector.

Weeks 3-5: Framing, Drywall & Infrastructure

Week 3: Any structural changes (wall removal, header installation, window modifications). Framing for new layout. HVAC modifications if needed.

Weeks 4-5: Drywall installation and finishing. Painting primer coats. Subflooring preparation. Cabinet blocking installation in walls.

Weeks 6-8: Cabinets, Countertops & Tile

Week 6: Cabinet installation — the moment your kitchen starts taking shape. This is typically the most exciting week for homeowners.

Week 7: Countertop templating and installation (usually requires the cabinets to be in first). Backsplash tile installation begins.

Week 8: Tile grouting and sealing. Cabinet hardware installation. Undercabinet lighting wiring.

Weeks 9-10: Appliances, Fixtures & Finishing

Week 9: Appliance delivery and installation. Plumbing fixture installation (faucet, sink, disposal). Electrical trim (switches, outlets, light fixtures).

Week 10: Flooring installation. Touch-up painting. Final hardware adjustments. Cleaning and detail work.

Weeks 11-12: Final Inspection & Reveal

Week 11: City final inspection. Any corrections needed (rare with our quality-first approach). Final cleaning.

Week 12: Your walkthrough with our team. We review every detail and address any concerns on the spot. You receive your 1-year warranty documentation, care instructions for your new surfaces, and the keys to your new kitchen.

Frequently Asked Questions

A cosmetic kitchen refresh (new countertops, backsplash, fixtures, paint) can be done in 4-6 weeks. However, a full kitchen remodel with new cabinets, layout changes, and structural work typically takes 10-14 weeks to do properly.

The most common delay causes are: custom cabinet lead times (order early), permit processing times, change orders during construction, unexpected structural issues (water damage, outdated wiring), and material availability. Barcci Builders mitigates these through thorough pre-construction planning.
